Portraits series : Gazes of women
Result of a three-year work cycle, Cécile Fauritte unveils a series of 15 portraits of women, famous and anonymous. Strong, committed and inspiring women… the artist renders a tribute to all those who move the lines as well as those who resist in silence. From Frida Khalo to Jessye Norman, from close relatives to illustrious strangers, a series of portraits like snapshots that celebrate the courage, strength and generosity of exceptional women.
“My work often finds its starting point in photography : a look, a posture that appeals to me. Then very quickly I detach myself from the initial image to give free rein to my spontaneity. The portrait of a woman is for me an inexhaustible source of inspiration. It is of course a way of highlighting female figures who touch me particularly by their courage and their engagement. But I also seek to give a face and at the same time a voice to anonymous women, who do not always have the right to speak. I try to transcribe in their gaze an emotion, a silent question, a dismay sometimes. All the things they could say but keep silent.
